Mad Skills Foundations Virtual Workshop with Amy the Potter Body Self-Care + The Claw Pull Technique

$120.00

In this 3-hour virtual workshop (hosted on Zoom at Rock Clay), we will be taught by the one and only Amy Palatnik (a.k.a Amy the Potter), who will share her tips and techniques with us.

This is not a beginner class! You must know how to center and be comfortable with throwing cups and medium-sized bowls on the wheel.

Master Potter Amy Palatnick has honed her craft for 37 years, creating work that blends the strength of stoneware with the delicate beauty of fine china. She makes radiant, thoughtfully crafted pieces that elevate daily rituals.

Drawing on a rich background in movement, embodiment, somatic meditation, and Process-Oriented Psychology, Amy offers a uniquely holistic learning experience—one that deepens personal awareness while building rock-solid throwing skills.

She shares her distinctive wheel-throwing techniques with students around the world and has cultivated a devoted social media community through her joyful, accessible, and empowering approach to clay.

The class will start by learning essential practices for sustaining a long, healthy, and joyful pottery life. Amy will guide you through practical body-care strategies that promote alignment, ease, and comfort as you work—helping you prevent strain, reduce soreness, and feel more comfortable as you work.

You then dive into Amy’s signature Claw Pull—the foundational first pull that can move a lot of clay and set you up for strong, even-walled cylinders. Through demonstration, guided practice, and personalized feedback, you’ll begin building the muscle memory and confidence to integrate this transformative technique into your throwing.

What you will need to bring to the workshop:
A smartphone
Access to Zoom via the Zoom App
A smartphone stand
(We recommend trying this at home before coming to the studio)
